Using the following input parameters Tank Length = 96 inches Tank Width = 18 inches Tank Height = 26 inches Tank volume is calculated as Tank Volume = 194.5 Gallons That's outside measurements so real volume will be slightly smaller.

Update... Our remodel is to a point where we are moving furniture back into he room. So...Me and 2 friends went to go get the tank, stand, hood, and other goodies. We got the tank into the truck and managed to move everything to the house. We set the stand up in the spot and deemed the location "good". Then we went to -*test*-('") the tank. Its big, its heavy, we decided not to attempt the move. So now I have a 500 lb glass box in the back of my truck and I'm lining up people to come help carry the thing into the house. I need at least 6 I think. I already see a few small complications. Mainly that the stand is not tall enough for my current skimmer. I only have 23 inches between the floor or the stand and the bottom of the tank. If I cut out the plywood floor I can gain an inch or 2. So I need to find a short squat skimmer or a HOB style for the main tank. I'm thinking that with a 180G tank, I don't need a HUGE sump. Just a refugium, spot for the skimmer, return pump, and the DSB bucket. Anyway, If any paradise guys see this today and want to help carry the beast at 6:00pm, give me a call and let me know. 872 7707 Bob

Seven guys to move the tank. It was easy with help. Anyway, the tank is in the house. They all laughed at me and told me I was crazy.

Very cool to see it in its home!!! Is that a circuit breaker panel without a cover just above the canopy? I'd be very careful about splashing in that vicinity. but on the plus side, running an extra dedicated circuit should be simple!!! Looking good!

Congrats on the new beast!!! You may want to look into a Chiller or other cooling options, With that short of a canopy you are going to be baking the water with any type of reef lighting! Keep us posted on the progress!!!

Thanks, I agree on the heat issue. I think I'll add 6 inches to the base of the canopy which should help with the heat. /rambling plan mode on I think my plan of attack will be something like this. Clean the tank and stand. Paint the back of the tank. Fill the tank with fresh water and check for leaks. Turn the W/D filter that came with the tank into the sump / fuge. Do the plumbing. Check the flow. Perhaps build that DIY wave box thats all the rage on RC now. Raise the canopy and install the lights and fans. Run the tank and see what the temp are like. Deside if a chiller is needed. Sell something and buy a chiller. Then I'll think aboit sand, rock, saltwater and cycle. Notes to self. I have 24 inchs exactly between the stand floor and the bottem of the tank. I'll need a chiller that with fit in that space. My return outlets need to be level with the water level of the tank when full. If the power goes out, I don't want to over flow the sump. Find out how to clean "dead" live rock.

Those wave boxes are pretty cool! I think for the livestock it would be fantastic! Everything seems awesome! I've been "working" on my build for about 3 months now and have been taking it slow the last couple months with summer... Time for me to relax.... Their are a number of threads on RC about washing dry rock and I remember a number of them being good. I will be looking into this when my tank does get setup. I do have about 50~ of rock curing in the backyard but they've got quite a bit of green algae from all the heat they've been getting.

I thought summer was when you were supposed to spend every free moment working on your tank?

I thought summer was when you were supposed to spend every free moment working on your tank? Well that was my hopes but I've been all over the place and while I don't have school I find that my free time was actually a little better when school was going... go figure!

I think my plumbing is going to look like this: Not my own design, but it looks solid. I wonder if those Hydor Rotating Water Deflector things on the end the scwd wavemakers would be too much randomness. My sump will be set up differently as well. I dont think refugium --> skimmer is the way to go. I will also have a DSB bucket in there somewhere.

underwaterparadise- 08-21-2008

The Hydor Flow deflectors are way to small and will blow right off, they would restrict the flow too much as well if you did get them to stay on. The largest Scwd is only 1" so it's pretty pointless to use 1.5" pipe on the CL IMO. I would also maybe do away with the additional drain in the tank for the CL. 1 intake should be plenty. Make sure to get a self priming pump for the CL as well.

Playwithbob- 08-21-2008

I'll most likely use the 3/4" SCWD. They are rated for a max of 1400g so 2 on a 2000g/he pump with some head pressure seems appropriate. The 3/4"ers are also 1/2 the price. The CL plumbing could be reduced from 1.5" to 1" or 1 1/4" as well. It all depends on what pump I find.
