Coil Denitrator
Roughly based on these plans. http://saltaquarium.about.com/library/blank/bldondiydenitratornew.htm

Yeah whenever I finish my upgrade I've got plans and a place for one of these in the stand. Let me know how it works and how quickly you see nitrates being reduced. Any reason why you went this route over the sulfur ones?

DAN- 09-07-2008

I am trying to stay away from chemicals and sulfur is not one of my friends. Also, this is pretty much self sustaining once it has cycled. Maybe and adjustment of the flow every so often but that is about it.

Yes, I agree with your reasoning. I just wanted to know your reasoning. This is one I surely would like to know how it works out for you.

This basicly works like a deep sand bed then?

This basicly works like a deep sand bed then? Same principle.

Has this been placed in OPeration yet? Has sufficent time passed to develop the anerobic bacteria bed yet? And finally, any noticeable decresase in Nitrate yet?

Has this been placed in OPeration yet? Has sufficent time passed to develop the anerobic bacteria bed yet? And finally, any noticeable decresase in Nitrate yet? It went into operation the day of the original post. It should be fully cycled now. I haven't checked the nitrates in a while so I don't really know. I guess I should do that. I don't smell any hydrogen sulfide which is a good sign.

So how do you get Bio hazard stickers? Something you come across in you're line of work maybe?

So how do you get Bio hazard stickers? Something you come across in you're line of work maybe? Actually, I made this one.

what are you using to push water through it and what is the gph? One would assume that it could et clogged easily, are you using some type of prefilter?

DAN- 12-12-2008

what are you using to push water through it and what is the gph? One would assume that it could et clogged easily, are you using some type of prefilter? I am using an old eheim pump. I really don't know what the gph is as it is throttled down to one drip/second. I don't have a prefilter.
