Craigslist posting 10/28 & November Meeting Information Chico Reef Club
This is an open invitation to all those interested in the the saltwater and reef aquarium hobby. We are a group of people from a broad range of experience and knowledge that get together to socialize, learn more about the hobby through discussions, Do-It-Yourself projects, speakers, and often we have raffle prizes at the end of the meetings. It doesn't matter if you are just thinking about setting up an aquarium, already have one with one fish and you don't know if things are fine, or if you know what you are doing and have a nice setup, or even if you run the aquarium in Atlanta, Monterey, or Steinhart, we welcome you. There is so much you can gain from participating in the on-line forum and attending the meetings then otherwise.
So please check out www.chicoreefclub.org and come out to the pizza place every second Friday of the month at 7pm. For the next meeting, it's going to be on November 14.

Chris Bovia- 10-28-2008
I'm in the process of trying to clean up my tanks so I can swap out them with my 125. I'll open up my house for the tank viewing after the meeting. But if anyone else wants November 08 please let me know.
I have a 50 gal and 29 gal mixed variety run on Power Compact 50/50 bulbs. I have 4 55W on the 50 and 2 55W on the 29. 29 is filtered by a Fluval 204 and a Prizm skimmer. Flow is created by a Koralia 2 and the filter/skimmer returns. The 50 has an SOS overflow to a DelRey 125 sump sans the bioballs. The Rio 20HF hyperflow pumps water to the 1/5hp Chiller then to the tank via a DIY eductor which increased the overall flow such that Softies would stay closed and some frogspawns started to shear off their bases. So I've rearranged things to minimize this. I have an AquaController II on this tank which tracks Temp, pH, and ORP and logs it every 15 minutes. I d/l to a laptop which allows me to track the changes. It also allows me to clearly see how frequently my chiller and heater are operating and how closely they replicate the on/off setpoints. Further, it's very interesting to see how much my pH shifts throughout the day. ORP is a loose indicator of relative dissolved oxygen levels. I can see whenever makeup water is added or even when I stick my hand/arm in to adjust something - it reflects on ORP. It also controls a fan to help cool the tank in the summer such that the chiller doesn't operate as much. It controls the lights to vary the main lights in stages and time to represent seasonal variations. It controls my moonlights and their relative intensity. I have all these on X10 appliance modules except the moonlights which are on a lamp (incandecent) module. I also have an X10 remote reciever and wireless remote control to operate X10 modules remotely: Lights (Front/Back/Moon/Fuge), Sump Pump, Heater, Fan, Chiller, etc.
In the 50, I have a Gold-Banded Maroon Clown hosting in the now split two BTA. I've got a Scopas tang who should be ashamed to be considered a tang as he doesn't eat anything but prepared foods. I have a very old and long Pink Spotted Shrimp Goby who has by far the best social personality. Just today after visiting Underwater Paradise, I picked up a comensurate pistol shrimp for the goby. There's a Mandarin fish who does his own thing and is not intimidated by anyone.
In the 29, there is a small Yellow tail Blue Tang who's growth from a quarter (coin) size has almost doubled, thus also motivating my move to the 125. There's a female Anthias, a lawnmower blenny, a peppermint shrimp, and an emerald crab that does a great job.
If anyone has any questions now please feel free to ask.

If anyone wants to bring in some frags for a raffle, we would all really appreciate it.
Melissa- 11-10-2008
I would like to know if I can get a head count for this meeting. Mtn Mike's will give our room away if we don't have a good number of people. I also would like to know how many people there are going to be and we might be able to buy some frags for the raffle.
I also wanted to let everyone know that we have business cards for the club now and they are at some of the LFS.
I also got permission today from PETCO to put up a flyer there about the club.
If anyone has any other ideas about putting up flyers or leaving our cards in other places just let me know and I will make sure I get it done.
Chris Bovia- 11-10-2008
I'll be there and maybe a frag to donate for the raffle. Not sure on that one as I don't really have any prepared at the moment as I'm busy building my upgrade stand. :D
