fans (computer fans?)
I need to get a couple fans to mount on my canopy. I remember a post a while back (maybe before we change sites) where someone recommended a certain fan. I am looking for two that are quiet and big (can go as large as 6inch by 6 inch). I see a bunch of computer fans for sale but they end in a 3 or 4 pin connector. I guess I need a computer expert to tell me what I need to buy to wire two of these together and to a basic electrical plug.

found a post online, any comments on these fans? http://www.buyextras.com/cafankit4vas.html This would be everything I need, right?

i bought 2 cheapo 5$ fans from newegg.com 80cfm i think. not super quiet, but acceptable. matt just picked up some yate loon? fans IIRC,i would ask him how they are. i have mine plugged into a 12v cell phone charger and it works well. i can run up to 4 fans on 1 power supply.

There was a really good thread on RC about some super quiet 90cfm fans. I can't find the thread right now though

yea i just hooked up some computer fans to my tank it dosnt matter if they are 4 pin Im pretty sure 2 pins are to measure temp or to crntl speed anyh how if you wire it right you just gotta find the ground and the power I took a fan out of my old computer power supply and a processor fan the processor fan was a 4 wire and i had now problem wireing it to an old phone charger.

I did this but I looked at the label on the fans was like 12V and .15A With two in parallel, I added the amps 0.30A and order a specific transformer 12V and 0.30A from digikey or something like that. Ensure the volts and amps are correct or you might find out that either the fans won't work properly or something might get too hot - and that is bad. Also you might consider some foam screen or other type of filter as they tend to attract dirt. I use compressed air to blow out a majority of it but I'm getting removable foam filter pads/screens for my new tank/canopy. good luck Good luck. Also, the four wire pins to fans generally only two of the four go to the fans. For two wires your fine. For the three wires, the third, generally yellow is used for RPM sensing.
