Quarantine tank and other basic/silly questions What is the basic requirement or set up for a Quarantine tank?
What do you "dip" stuff in when using the dip method?
I assume the dip method is a freshwater dip, but for how long?
I assume a 20g tank with a light and power head is OK for a Quarantine tank.
Wendy and I got some pests that we are dealing with in our tanks that I would rather not move to the new tank.
Educate me please.

What pest?
FW is very hard on Most fish and will kill just about all SPS.
A QT tank needs to hold water, heater and something for water movement. Must be able to treat with copper and/or Antibiotics.
For dips I like to use Lugols,Reef Dip, or Coral revive but it all depends on the coral and the pest.

The pest turned out to be flatworms, I have some stuff ordered to get rid of them. I also understand hat I can "vacume" many of them away when doing a WC.
Thats the plan for tomarrow.
Thanks for the Q Tank info.
The more I learn the less I know.

I have used a 20 gallon in the past and that has worked fine, but I also have only really added inverts and coral since the initial tank setup so I haven't had too much of a need for QT. I just had the 20 with a a florescent light and a little ball of cheato, powerhead and heater. Seemed to work fine for me.

They Key with a QT tank though is it should be medicated to be an actual QT tank. I will usually use water from my main tank to fill the QT (with a 40% wg, so 60% tank water 40% new water) and sometimes use a sponge from the main tank for bacteria.
Also with a QT tank being they are usually small you need to keep an eye on the ammonia levels or they can get deadly fast!!!
