Sweet set up!! Are those Tunze boxes I see ;) The maristars are very nice ( I wish I knew that's what light you were going with, they were on sale for really cheap). What ballast did you go with?
WOW 300 snails! I take it that was an online purchase? Those online sites always try and sell too large of clean up crews IMO. Don't take this the wrong way but don't be surprised if 75% of that clean up crew dies on you. With new tanks there just usually isn't enough algae and nutrients to keep them alive (so keep an eye out for ammoina spikes)
Half the crew was dead before they got here, lol. No, just kidding, not that many, but 4 of my 5 Fuzzy Chitons (the main reason I ordered online, have never seen them in a store) were DoA, without any replacement offer. Sucks.
I split the snails up between my tanks. A bunch went in my old 34g, some in my 12g, and the rest in my 120g + each of the 25g refugiums. They've been demolishing the algae in the tanks, but I've also been adding algae wafers for them to chew on, and they seem to appreciate that.
I went with your "nothing with hands" policy on this tank. At least I think that was your policy?

I had a new Tunze NanoWave box for approximately two days. You see, the timeline happened like this:
1. Cat chews tiny holes in electrical cord, invisible to the naked eye.
2. Ryan installs wavebox.
3. Wavebox works.
4. Wavebox doesn't work.
5. Ryan takes down wavebox.
6. Ryan see's teeth mark in cord, and that they have become covered in green rust stuff from the water hitting the wires.
7. Ryan stares angrily at cat.
8. Girlfriend stares angrily at Ryan.
9. Ryan and girlfriend agree that "this was a learning lesson".
I went with the Blue Wave 7 Dual 250w HQI ballst, as I wanted an M80 ballast as I'm running DE bulbs. I was able to get it new for ~$120 with the lights (I think it was a pricing error), so I lept on it.

I could have sworn that was yours! I personally like it. My hermits in my other tanks have decimated my snail populations, so I've decided that I'm not going with them. I don't really think I want any crabs, but maybe pistol shrimp. Skunk cleaners, never again. Peppermints I haven't heard anything bad about, and If I have an aiptasia problem, I'll probably go with them.

That time line is LOL!!! Did you repair the wave box?
$120 is less then wholesale price so I would say it's a steal.............I guess it depends on how much they charged for the light though.

I'm sending it in to Tunze tomorrow. I wrote them and said if they can fix it, great, if they can't, they can keep it as a doorstop.

You should be able to fix it?? Isn't just a wire splice? Don't give it to them either way. I'm sure there is some kind of DIY toy you could make with it!!

My cat chewed through the part that is actually in the tank, so any kind of fix would have to actually be water proof. Plus, it's not a normal cord, so it'd be an interesting splice. Lastly, the lights on the controller were going NUTS when it started shorting out, and I think it fried the controller.
underwaterparadise- 10-30-2008
That sucks!!
Pcrain- 10-30-2008
After that I i would turn that cat into an outdoor cat
camlov2- 10-31-2008
Or an inside out cat.

Evil kitty cat!!! Hillarious storyline.
So I'm confused. Cat chewed on wavemaker cord...
How did that affect the lights or was the ballast cords chewed as well? And have you determined yet if your controller board is shot or not? Wow, sounds like you're heading down Brian's path - but I sure hope not!!!!

The Tunze waveboxes come with a separate controller, just for the wavebox. And it is no longer functioning, and was going haywire as the pump/wavebox itself was dying.
